Custom Website Design FAQ's
WordPress is a powerful web design platform and Content Management System (CMS) which powers over 40% of all websites on the web. I use it because it’s so user-friendly for my clients and offers the freedom for me to design the website without limitations. Unlike do-it-yourself website builders (Squarespace, Wix), the possibilities for what I can build for you are endless, and I can implement a number of complex features and functions that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to get.
Additionally, because WordPress is open-source software, there are no monthly costs or fees for using it (you just need a domain name and web hosting!)
Of course – I design my websites to make them as user-friendly as possible. I create a custom admin area for you so that you’re greeted with everything you need to manage your site as soon as you login. You’ll also have access to my extensive online guides which show you how to edit your site.
Once you’ve decided to go ahead, I’ll send you an invoice for a 50% upfront deposit. Once the website is complete, you’ll receive another invoice for the remaining balance. If you opted for a payment plan, you will be sent a link to set up a monthly Direct Debit after the first draft has been created.
Payment can be made via BACS (preferred), PayPal or cheque. Direct Debits are securely paid via GoCardless and protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee.
I am not VAT registered (one of the benefits of hiring me rather than a large agency!) so the price you see is the price you pay.
At the end of the project, I supply you with access to my online documentation which details how to edit your website so that you can update it yourself. You will also receive one month’s free Bronze Membership, which grants you 2 hours of design time to help support you whilst you’re learning the ropes.
After this time, any further updates, amendments or changes to the site will be charged at my hourly rate of £40ph, or you can become a full CRJ Design Member for ongoing updates and support at a discounted price.

It’s really important that your web hosting meets my standards, otherwise you risk having a slow or unreliable website. I offer my own affordable hosting for just £6/month or £66/year which is lightning fast and powered by 100% renewable energy.
For third party hosting providers, my standards include: a valid SSL certificate, unlimited/unmetered bandwidth, high resources (1GB RAM, 1 CPU, 25 EntryProcesses, 8 mb/s I/O), adequate storage. Large, powerful, resource-heavy websites may require higher standards and resources. I cannot guarantee the speed or reliability of your website when it is hosted by a third party.
Usually, I can get started on a new project within 2 weeks (sometimes sooner), so please bear this in mind if you have a tight deadline. I’ll give you an estimated start date when you book in.
This depends entirely on the size of the project, how many alterations are needed, the speed of communications etc. Usually I aim for a website to be finished within 4 weeks of the start date. You’ll receive an estimated completion date when you book in.
No! I work with people all over the UK and I even have clients in the US, Spain and Africa.
Following an initial consultation with you, I’ll send over a questionnaire for you to fill in, letting me know what pages and features you need, your target audience, and your aims.
I will also send over a checklist of items I need before I get started, including your logo/branding, all written content, any photos/graphics/videos to be used, and all information required to set up your online shop or booking system (if applicable).
You will also need to register your domain name and set up web hosting (you can host with me for £6/month and register affordable domain names via myself too).
During the design process, you get three opportunities to provide your feedback and request changes. Each round of requested alterations is classed as a revision. Three revisions is usually plenty, but if you need further alterations or changes, I can carry these out for you and extra charges will apply.
An initial design is a unique first draft, based on your requirements and response to our questionnaire. When I design your website, the first draft I send you is the initial design. You can request changes to this design (see revisions above), but drastically re-designing the website in its entirety will be classed as a new initial design.
